ONLINE LEARNING 2020
Week 1 (April 6-9)
Climate Change Project Summaries
1. What did you have planned for the Climate Change Project?
2. Did COVID-19 affect it? If so how?
3. How can you modify it so that you can still make a change to reduce Climate Change?
Email: [email protected] or IF you are "sharing" a google doc, shared with [email protected].
Please make sure that the SUBJECT of your email is "BlockH. Enviro 12, NAME, Week 1"
Week 2 (April 14-17)
Class discussion on Climate Change projects.
Individual groups will be assigned various projects.
Week 3 (April 20 - 24)
You are going to make a survey using Google Forms or other forms of survey taking tool (Survey Monkey).
This survey should be about your project or if you are finished your project, make it about a topic that has to do with your project.
- 15-30 questions long
- ask questions that get data from the consumer's habits that is important the topic
- ask questions that make the consumer wonder about their habits
- ask questions to make the consumer change their habits for the better
- ask questions to collect data on pledges/promises that can be projected into the future.
- SEND the survey to enough people to get 15-20 responses.
- Next week we need the data to be able to do the next assignment.
Week 4 (April 27-May 1)
Using data from last week's assignment,
- analyze the data highlighting important pieces of information.
- Create bar graphs, line graphs, pie charts that are important to your findings
- write a short paragraph indicating why they are important.
- you need 3-5 charts/graphs with explanations of why they are significant
- due Friday
Week 5 (May 5 - May 8)
Submit a 4-5 page powerpoint or PDF of you Climate Change Project
In you slides provide
What you did
How you did it
Analyzed data

Week 7 (Catch-up week) no new work
Week 8 (May 25-29)
Sustainability Project Part 2
Using your research from last week, create a VISUAL presentation for the rest of the class. (could be powerpoint, prezi, video, other forms of visual presentation)
This presentation will be shared next week for others to comment and do a write up.
The presentation should have
- Introduction - what is the background of the issue, why did you choose it?
- What's the problem? Why is what you chose a problem?
- What's the solution? How can we change, slowly or rapidly? What can ONE individual do to help fix the problem?
- Conclusion - What would the world look like if the problem was fixed using your solutions?
Week 9
Below you'll find the presentations of people who submitted them. Pick TWO of the presentations (not your own) and read and review them. Then submit a summary of what you learned in the presentations in TWO parts, one for each presentation. Send in an email or as an attachment.
Remember the subject of your email should always be "Block, Name, Week#"
Big Houses
Inefficient Houses
There are more under Environmental Science 11 under "Week 8"
Week 10 (June 8-12) Alternative Housing
This week you will be exploring alternative ways of housing. Many of you might be thinking about how you might be living once you have an income and want to move out of you parents' houses. The culture of buying a house with a big yard, white picketed fence, green lawn may be prevalent, but what are the costs to your wallet and the environment. Of course, there are pros and cons of living in any type of housing, but knowing your options will help you start dreaming big (or tiny in some cases) so that you can plan your future living the way you want to, with a happy conscience. You will be watching some video clips of different types of housing alternative and reflecting on it.
When you are watching the videos, take notes with the following thoughts and questions in mind.
What are the pros and cons of living in these alternative ways? What do you like about living in these ways? What do you not like about living this way? What kind of sacrifices do you have to make to live this way? Is it worth it? What are the financial costs and benefits? What are the environmental costs and benefits? What may be the process of planning to live this way? In the bigger picture of community and globalization, what are the costs and benefits of living this way? If a large majority of people lived this way, what would the human community look like? What would the environmental and ecological community look like? How could these alternative ways of living be better?

4. Reflection: In a 1 page double-spaced reflection, take your notes and reflect on the guiding questions above, state your opinion of why alternative homes can be good for us, making sure that you state your reasons and the pros AND cons of living in an alternative home. The questions above are just guiding questions to help you think and reflect. you DO NOT HAVE TO answer every question. Finally, would you, personally opt to live this way if you had the opportunity to? Why or why not?
SUBMISSION:
In a word document, send your notes and your final reflection. Email should have the subject "BlockH, Name, Week 10"
